Purpose and independence
TDEE Calculator publishes a free calculator and educational articles about daily energy needs, nutrition, and fitness. We make our own editorial choices. Mentioning or linking to another organization does not mean that it endorses this website or controls our content. If paid or affiliate content is introduced, it should be clearly identified where it appears.
Our content explains general concepts. It is not a personal nutrition plan, medical diagnosis, or treatment recommendation.
How we explain the calculator
The site describes its default calculation using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for basal metabolic rate (BMR), followed by an activity multiplier to estimate total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). It also shows related results such as BMI and starting macronutrient targets. These numbers are estimates. The activity level a person selects and their individual circumstances can make the result differ from their actual needs.
Evidence and uncertainty
For health and formula claims, we aim to check original research and guidance from the organizations that publish it. We should distinguish evidence from a practical suggestion, link directly to relevant sources where possible, and avoid presenting an estimate as a guaranteed result. Our Sources and Fact-Checking page explains this approach.
Feedback and corrections
